RewaHome, a registered women self-help group based in Laikipia County, Kenya, is dedicated to empowering marginalized women through socio-economic initiatives. These women are mostly from the Maa communities (Maasai, Samburu and Turkana).
RewaHome established in 2024 near Two -two squatter settlement is a settlement Home with a goal to make Two-two squatter settlement a balanced community through providing essential commodities like food, water and medical services.
Two-two squatter settlement in Nanyuki Kenya started 30 years ago. The land where Two-two stands was set aside by the colonialists. They called it Stock Road. The colonialists would bring cattle from other areas for overnight stay. The cattle would later be transported by train to slaughterhouses across the country.
Today, Two-two has been inhabited mainly by Nomadic tribes i.e. Maasai, Samburu and Turkana, who has continued to settle gradually as Squatters. The population in Two-two squatter settlement is between 300 and 400 people. These squatters are politically, economically, socially and technically marginalized. They have no hospitals, schools, roads, or water sites.
RewaHome addresses the wide complexities of social, economic and environmental issues confronting Two- two squatter settlement by stimulating bottom-up, participatory initiatives. At the core of RewaHome is therefore a registered women self-help group which consists of 30 women from the squatter settlement. Through this self-help group, RewaHome raises consciousness about oppressive forces in Two-two squatter settlement and mobilizes people’s own ability for change through support and education.
Our programs focus on education, practical skills training, and entrepreneurship, aiming to uplift women and their communities.
